FACILITY
David M. McCarthy Ice Arena, owned by The City of Batavia is located in Batavia, NY. Opened in 1978, the 24,000 square-foot facility features a NHL sized skating rink that is converted April through August to dry floor concrete sport court.

EVENTS
The rink is complimented by two meeting/party rooms that support a variety of corporate and community functions as well as group outings/field trips, themed events, expos, trade shows, live shows and concerts.

PROGRAMS
The arena provides for a host of programs, program drop-ins, and leagues.

OPERATIONS
The David M. McCarthy Ice Arena is operated by Batavia Sports Facility Management, LLC. Batavia Sports Facility Management is a locally owned and operated company that was formed for the sole purpose of managing the ice arena. BSFM, LLC is a community-first organization whose goal is to provide a variety of sports and entertainment opportunities to a safe and well maintained facility.

  • David McCarthy grew up in Batavia, New York and was a fixture at the ice arena, playing for the Ramparts in the Genesee Amateur Hockey Association (GAHA). At Batavia High School, he was captain of a varsity team that finished as the runner-up in Division I in 1994-95. McCarthy, 29, was killed Nov. 2, 2006, in a motor vehicle accident.

    Batavia City Council approved the naming rights for the arena on February 14, 2022. The unveiling of signage for the David M. McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena occurred on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 22 Evans Street in Batavia.
